Company History
TSD Engineering was originally founded in 1982 by Jim Holst. Jim is a licensed registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of California with the Department of Consumer Affairs. He has been a consultant in the field of applied mechanics since 1978. He has been involved in many industries including electronics, semiconductor, medical, aerospace, automotive, marine and nuclear performing physical tests and computer simulations in support of design engineers.
“The mission is to improve the productivity of our customers and the quality of their products.”
To accomplish this mission Jim promotes the integration of mechanical design simulation and optimization tools into the front of the design process. This allows designs to be optimized during the concept phase where the engineers have the most flexibility. It has been found that an investment in time up front, getting a concept that works and is optimized will save time and money with fewer changes through the completion of the project.
Jim is dedicated to the idea of simulation driven mechanical design. Design simulation is a method of predicting the real world response of real hardware during a mechanical event. Also called a soft prototype, it allows you to determine if your design will meet the functional requirements before any hardware is built. This saves the cost of physical prototypes as well as reducing the design cycle time and allowing you to design functional requirements that are not practical to test. It’s most effective to begin the simulation process at the start of the design cycle where the models can be simpler and run faster, allowing many more ideas to be evaluated.
Jim is ready to become a part of your design team providing the benefits of experience and state-of-the-art tools. Jim will also work to develop the skills and tools of your existing design team members helping you with the art of letting form follow function in a way that best suits your company.
We can interface with your design team easily using Parametric Technology Corp (Creo) and Dassault Systems (SolidWorks) CAD systems as well as with generic STEP files.
